Thanksgiving Camp 2009: Amazing Electricity!

At our Thanksgiving Camp: Amazing Electricity, we will explore static and current electricity in depth by creating an array of gadgets and toys. By building these fun contraptions we will learn about electricity at the subatomic level; exploring how batteries work, building circuits, examining the difference between series and parallel circuits, and learning how lights and motors and buzzers work. We’ll play with our hair-raising Van de Graaf generator. In addition to building fun gadgets every day, we’ll do fun and creative art projects, play outdoors and watch science movies.

Each child will make and take home:

  • Tiny solar-powered house with a working doorbell
  • Motorized airplane (that flies in circles)
  • Electrostatic Tetherball Game
  • Saltwater Battery that lights an LED
  • Magic Static Wand to Bend Water to Your Will
  • Circuit Demonstration Box (to show the difference between series and parallel circuits)
